Privacy policy

This describes what we actually do with your information — not a template. If anything here is unclear, or you think we have something wrong, tell us and we will fix it.

Who we are

Oryn Energy Ltd. ("Oryn", "we", "us") coordinates home electric vehicle charger installations across Ontario — primarily in the Greater Toronto Area, and also in Hamilton and the Niagara Region. The electrical work itself is performed and certified by independent, ECRA/ESA-licensed electrical contractors. Oryn is not an electrical contractor.

We are responsible for the personal information under our control. Our privacy contact is info@orynenergy.ca.

This policy is written to meet our obligations under the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), which governs how private-sector organisations in Ontario handle personal information.

What we collect, and when

When you fill in the quote form

The form on this website collects exactly five things:

FieldWhy we need it
Your nameSo we can address you properly
Email addressSo we can send your quote and follow up
Phone numberSo we can call or text you about your quote and your installation. We do not use it for marketing.
Postal codeTo confirm you are in our service area and to match you with a nearby electrician
Vehicle makeDifferent vehicles have different charging characteristics, which affects the recommendation

That is the whole list. We do not ask for your address or anything about your household at this stage.

The form also contains a hidden field that a human never sees or fills in. It exists only to catch automated spam submissions. If it is completed, we flag the submission as probable spam rather than discarding it, so a real enquiry filled in by an over-eager browser is never lost.

If you arrived from a dealership

Some of our pages accept a short referral code in the web address, for example when you scan a QR code on a card at a car dealership. If one is present, your browser stores it temporarily and sends it with your quote request, so we know which dealership to credit and thank. It identifies the dealership, not you, and it is cleared when you close your browser tab.

We also record which page you were reading when you submitted the form, so we know what people find useful.

If you go ahead with a quote or an installation

Once you are actually getting a quote or booking work, we will need more, and we will ask you for it directly — normally by email or phone rather than through this website. That typically includes:

  • Your home address, so the electrician can attend
  • Photographs of your electrical panel and the proposed charger location, so the job can be scoped accurately without an unnecessary site visit
  • Details about your home's electrical service and your parking arrangement
  • Contact details for scheduling

Photographs of the inside of your home are personal information and we treat them that way. We collect them only for scoping and quoting your job, we share them only with the licensed contractor who is quoting or performing your work, and we do not use them for marketing, publish them, or show them to anyone else without asking you first.

What we do not do

To be explicit, because these are the things people reasonably worry about:

  • No cookies. This website does not set any.
  • No analytics, and no tracking of you. There is no Google Analytics, no advertising pixel, no Meta or LinkedIn tag, no session recording, no heatmaps. We do not build a profile of you and we do not follow you around other websites.
  • We do not buy, sell, rent or trade personal information. Not to marketers, not to anyone.
  • No automated decisions about you. A person reads every enquiry.

How we use it

We use your information to:

  1. Prepare and send your quote
  2. Match you with a suitable licensed electrical contractor
  3. Coordinate scheduling, the installation, and the ESA notification and certificate
  4. Answer your questions and handle any problem afterwards
  5. Pay a referral fee to a dealership where one applies
  6. Keep the records we are required to keep, and improve how we work

We will not use your information for a new purpose that you would not reasonably expect without asking you first.

Marketing. If we ever send you something that is not about your own enquiry or job, it will comply with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation, it will identify us, and it will carry a working unsubscribe link. Asking for a quote does not sign you up to a mailing list.

Who we share it with, and why

We share the minimum necessary, with these categories only:

  • The licensed electrical contractor quoting or performing your installation. They receive what they need to do the work — your name, contact details, address, and the photographs and details of your electrical setup. They are independent businesses with their own obligations to you, and we require them to protect your information and use it only for your job.
  • The Electrical Safety Authority, where a notification of work or certificate requires it.
  • Our service providers — the companies that host this website, deliver our email and, in future, process payments. They act on our instructions.
  • A referring dealership, where you came to us through one. They are told that a referral converted so we can pay them. They do not receive your panel photographs or the details of your home.
  • Where the law requires it — a court order, a lawful demand from a regulator or law enforcement, or where necessary to establish or defend a legal claim.

If we are ever involved in a sale or reorganisation of the business, information may transfer as part of it. It would remain subject to this policy.

Where your information is held

Quote requests submitted through this website are received and processed in Canada. The function that receives the form runs in Amazon Web Services' Canadian region (ca-central-1).

Two honest qualifications:

  • Our email is Google Workspace. Once your enquiry reaches our inbox it is stored by Google, which may process and store it outside Canada, including in the United States. While it is held outside Canada it may be accessible to the courts and authorities of that country.
  • This website is served through a global content delivery network. That distributes the public pages you are reading; it does not involve your personal information.

We tell you this because PIPEDA expects us to be transparent about information leaving the country, not because we think it is a problem.

How long we keep it

  • Enquiries that do not become jobs: kept while we follow up, then routinely deleted. We do not keep old leads indefinitely on the theory that they might come good.
  • Completed jobs: kept for as long as we may need them for warranty, safety, insurance or tax purposes, and for the periods Canadian law requires.
  • Panel photographs: kept with the job record. If you ask us to delete them once the work is finished and certified, we will, unless we are required to keep them.
  • Referral codes: kept with the enquiry or job record, and used only to work out which dealerships actually bring us work.

How we protect it

We keep access to personal information limited to the people who need it to do the work, use reputable service providers, and require our contractors to handle your information appropriately.

We will not claim our security is perfect, because no organisation's is. If a breach occurs that creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as PIPEDA requires.

Your choices and your rights

You can decline. Everything on the form is voluntary. If you would rather not put your details into a website, email us instead.

You can withdraw consent at any time, subject to legal and contractual limits, by emailing us. If you withdraw consent partway through a job we may not be able to finish it.

You can ask what we hold. You have the right to ask for access to the personal information we hold about you and to be told how it has been used and who it has been disclosed to. We will respond within 30 days, and normally much sooner. There is no charge for a reasonable request.

You can have it corrected. If something is wrong or out of date, tell us and we will fix it.

You can complain. Email us first — most issues are a misunderstanding and we would rather resolve it directly. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca or 1-800-282-1376.

Children

This service is for homeowners and property owners. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Our guides link to other organisations — the City of Toronto, the Electrical Safety Authority, utilities and government programmes. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which we do not control. We link to them because the information is useful and we would rather you read it at source.

Fonts

The typefaces on this site are loaded from Google Fonts. Your browser therefore makes a request to Google to fetch them, and Google will see your IP address as part of that request. We do not receive anything from it. We mention it because it is a real third-party connection and you deserve to know it happens.

Changes

If we change this policy we will change the date below and, where the change is significant, say so on the website. This version is dated 8 September 2026.

This policy describes our current practice. It is not legal advice to you.

About this page. Oryn coordinates home EV charger installations across the Greater Toronto Area, Hamilton, Niagara and elsewhere in Ontario. The electrical work is performed and certified by independent, ECRA/ESA-licensed electrical contractors — Oryn is not itself an electrical contractor. Prices described here are general market ranges for orientation only, not a quote, and not an offer. Your own price depends on your home and is confirmed in writing before any work starts. The charger installation — the wiring from your panel to the charger, and the charger itself — is quoted as a fixed price. Electrical panel or service work, where it is needed, is quoted separately as an estimate with a stated ceiling that you approve before anything begins.
